Ahead of next year's local government election, a Brisbane mayoral candidate has floated the idea of dropping the "lord" from the title of lord mayor.

      They are “Lord mayors” to show the extra impact they have compared to “everyday mayors” of regional districts.

      The Lord Mayor of Brisbane is at the top of local government for 1.2 million people.

      Compare this to, say, the Mayor of the Mackay Regional Council, which has 120,000 people.
