We still do, with “we” being people, and we’re all left out in the cold, since there aren’t any representatives with anything other than hard-line party positions.

I’m socially more left but fiscally right. I’ve always had that stance and there were plenty of other republicans like me. Just like there were many democrats who were socially right but fiscally left. It made voting for either party an option based on what issues were important to you.

I think I’m left until I hang around with real leftists, then I realize I am not left. Republicans call me a liberal, and real liberals call me a libertarian. I’m neither of those things I guess, but a little bit of each of them.

Me right friends think I’m too liberal. My left friends think I’m to right.

I’m actually pretty damn moderate. The issue isn’t me, it’s people have become extreme and I haven’t.

The only things I go far right are economic issues and national defense. I am very much a small government Republican.

Gosh danged right! There are a lot of issues I’m more passionate about than an average person, but I’m not married to a single ideology, and definitely not 100% aligned with a party. It feels pretty demoralizing when this, which used to be the majority of people’s attitudes, leaves me feeling alone with my perspectives.

Until Botha sides stop becoming extreme, we won’t see the country get better. If you haven’t seen Reagan the movie. Go watch it. It’s weird but the one take away is how different politics have become. Reagan made everyone laugh and feel comfortable. He worked with democrats. He had democrats friends. Both sides weren’t as bitter.

I think people forget that Regan crushed the elections. I can’t see anyone doing that now days.

“Socially liberal” man liked Reagan and Reagan (2024). Go figure.

Ty Burr gave the film 1.5/4 stars, writing, “The faithful for whom Reagan was made aren’t likely to see that it’s a hagiography as rosy and shallow as anything in a Kremlin May Day parade. As pop-culture propaganda — popaganda, if you will — the movie’s strictly for true believers. As history, it’s worthless.”

No clue who Ty Burr is but historically Regan and tip we’re friends. Reagan crushed both elections.
